Problem with new (black) paint

Postby Lefteris (Athens-Greece) » Thu Jan 24, 2008 3:30 pm

Hello.
Here is how my 3 months old-new paint looks right now, I try all I know, wax, etc.. and nothing, looks like the problem is under the clear top coat!
Also on scale of 10, the hood (aluminum) is 10, the frond fenders top side (aluminum) is 7 and the roof (steel) is 5.
The problem is only on the top of the car , both sides, and the plastic bumpers are perfect!
The shop did not know why, but it will paint the hood, front fenders and the roof again for free....
Any ideas please?
As long as the shop dont know the problem, I will never know if it happen again after the new paint!

I friend of the 928 forum on Rennlist find the problem

I wonder what was the last panel that they sprayed? You might try using a slower drying thinner, if you repaint but watch out for runs ''

When they paint the car (I was there) the ventilation system wont work correct (If not at all) I ask them how he can see in there...
Gest what was the last panel that they sprayed... the hood!

BUDDY.... LET ME STOP YOU RIGHT THERE.....

You just had it painted, take it back and allow them to color sand it if need be. Only they will know how far they can go down since they know how much clear they applied. If you do it yourself, you are screwing yourself if you go past the clear layer.

I know my paint guy would color sand my complete car for under $500 but your shop might offer it for free since it's not even dry.....

Good Luck,

Hey Lefteris,

I agree with Eli, since you just had it painted and I'm not sure what you paid. If there are any defects in the paint quality it would appear that the painter would be responsible for touching up any inconsistencies.

If you happen to make a mistake in color sanding the car then you will have to shell out more bucks in order to get it fixed correctly. JMO...

Good luck,

I will not do anything by myself om the car paint, they already told me that they will paint it again for free, the problem is under the clear coat so the only way to do it right is to paint the whole top of the car again!
Both sides and the bampers are perfect!
