Life is funny...wont be seeing me for awhile!

Postby AsianImage » Mon Jul 02, 2007 10:05 am

Just when I think things may be going my way...Life loves to throw a right cross sometimes...

I just got a call from my mechanic. My tranny is shot. garbage...done for. How much for a factory rebuild you say?

$7000

umm...yeah.....so...say good bye to Irving for a while. I will be eating Ramen and staying home for a looooong time.

Sorry to hear about that big Irv....

Seriously doubt you will need to spend the 7,000 for a new trans.....

Did he said the internals were gone? Where is it? Is it over at McKenna? If so let me know, I have a friend over there who can give me the low-down.....

Now let me ask you.....

I have some friends to dabble in parts all the time and I could put the feelers out there but I don't want to if you're not ready.....

If you can PM me your budget to purchase a used trans I can scope out for you to see what I can find.... I just need to know what is acceptable and how quickly you're able to act.

Don't want to spin my wheels for nothing..... :)

Hey Big Irv,

Real sorry to hear about the PCAR...I'm sure this is just a temporary setback. However, just think...you just bought the second car...at least you won't be without transportation entirely...

Keep your head up bro...

the car is at TRE..and yeah the internals are shot. As you know this is actually a "common" problem. At least in my research on other boards. but it usually happens to TTs.

As for timing..I have none. The car is there..and I need it back by the time I get back next week. So it looks like I have to get it done altogether.

Many people said not to go used...because you are gambling that it may fail too. Its a crap shoot. Since I am out of warranty, it makes sense to go this route that at least I have recourse of the tranny fails again. I get the factory warranty on parts and the shop's warranty on labor. If I went used..I would have nothing except good luck.

I priced it out..for all the things I needed and TRE is the most reasonable. Even after this...they said they would try to soften the blow on my other work to make this less horrible. =(

waaaah....I will really miss you guys now!

the car is at the shop...I dont have the time or the luxury of having it towed here and there etc. Plus I jump on a plan on Wed and will be gone until Monday.

I posted this on 6 speed as well...I am going to call back and get specifics maybe I can take this up with Porsche NA. Cuz I am only at 30K.

EDIT - OK..I just spoke to Jeremy again. So...the tranny is messed up internally. For them to know EXACTLY what is wrong with it, they would have to tear it apart to diagnose it. The simple bench diagnosis is simple...the trans will not go into 2nd gear. Nothing else externally is wrong with the trans. No leaks, no linkage issues, no SSK issues...nothing. So if I paid for the shop to take apart the tranny, that would effect my CORE that I need to trade in to get the new tranny. I was also reminded my car has the B&M SSK...that alone would void any warranty issues on the trans. So...as I expected I am stuck.

Have you contacted any transmission spec.? They tear trannys down all day long and might be able to make this a cheap ticket....

I dont have the time to do all of that research and running around. The car is at the shop now. I need it back ASAP. Sooo..if I was to find a tranny specialist, I need to have the tranny pulled, go pick it up, take it to the tranny place, wait for however long that would take, pick it up, take it back to my mechanic for the install? I simply cannot do it that way. I am just going to swallow this pill...
