Ideas for my 944

Postby Underground944 » Sun Nov 26, 2006 7:36 pm

Hey I am working on restoring and modding an '84 944, inwhich I droped an '89 924S engine into, (block on the original 944 was shot) and right now I am working all stock parts. I am wondering if there are any specific things I can do to make it a legit street car.

When working at the shop many of the new 924/928/944/Turbo owners would usually start off with the exhaust and go from there.

I've seen some of these set up for the track and they've done well, I guess the question is where do you really want to be and how deep are your pockets?......

Take care and welcome, make sure you post a photo when you get a moment.

I want some track aspects in it, the pockets are deep, so anything really, I would love to have the car run as best as possible, speed, HP and such, custom body, I want to know what else has been done out there, and what is available.

From what I gather parts are cheaper for the LS series motors and it is more reliable than the Porsche OEM. Also it can push massive gobs of power a lot easier and cheaper. The other benefit is that weight and weight distribution will either stay the same or decrease slightly as the LS motor is actually pretty light weight.

Just a thought.

Aren is correct...to most it is BLASPHEMY to even do that....but...even the ultimate Porsche magazine EXCELLENCE...I think in the previous 2 issues covered a clean 944 with a corvette motor in it. The stated the same exact reason...gobs of power...and ANYONE can work on it. PARTS are so cheap compared to a P motor and reliability is there too...the only down side is...you are obviously kinda changing the heart and soul of the car. So it all depends on what you want to get out of it.

some cars it doesnt matter to me..a shell is a shell. Like the "monster miata" that has a 5.0 mustang motor in it. Do I care? Not really..a miata is a miata. Heck I personally would throw in a turbo rotary engine it.

or owners of 914s...throwing V8s or Subaru STi motors in them. Blasphemy also? Maybe...but man the power and ease of maintenance makes a strong argument.
Anybody tells you money is the root of all evil, doesn't f*cking have it.
