Engine light on...

Postby cameronc08 » Wed Apr 05, 2006 5:25 pm

SOrry, I know I ask a TON of questions, just trying to get the car back on the road the CORRECT WAY.

So i'm a little nervous. I FINALLY have the entire cars parts all in place, and actually took it around the block. Now I am just worried, as I was pouring the antifreeze and water in, didn't check the temp gauge for a bit and it started overheating, so I turned it off for the night. Not sure how long, couldnt have been overheating TOO long. Now today, as I am putting the antifreeze and water in some more, the engine light is on, and it wasnt last night. Granted, the car, before last night, hasn't been started in MONTHS, and it was in the front accident before that. Replaced the radiator, and mechanically the front is all good now. But there was a TON of air being leaked out the antifreeze, were still working on filling it (going on day three tomorow it was getting dark) But it drove around the block fine. Do you think it is because there was so much freakin air inside that is still being leaked that it was overheating a little, causing the enigne light to come on? The motor should be ok right. Im hoping that after the car gets into routine after driving on the highway for a few days, the car will be fine, will probably have to get the engine light turned off because the computer wont do it itself. But do you think im screwed and there is motor damage? Can't be a blown gasket, theres no colored steam coming out the exhaust. Cant be a cracked block, because it starts and stays on for about 2 hours, and we drove it around the block. And it cant be a leak because..theres no leaks...So Do you think the engine light is just nothing to worry about, because its a little freaked out since its been hibernating? Any input would be lovely, thanks again guys!

its also worth noting that there was a sensor sticking out the the passenger side grill, a little black tip, and we put our own mesh grills in, and by doing that the sensor somehow got unhooked while putting the bumper on. Not sure what that sensor does, and if it has anything to do with the engine, but figured I would give all the info I can.

Do you mean your engine light came on and off, but nothing was wrong mechanically?

And also, what exactly does the temp sensor do, and does it affect the engine in any way. Do I need to hook it back in? Not even sure what it does..Thanks for the response.

Im praying to God there is nothing wrong with the engine, or else bye bye boxster...

Ok so I just read that the temp sensor will just tell you the temp of outside, even if you dont have the on-board computer, you jsut have to get the machine hooked up to 'trick' the system. Obviosuly this sensor is pointless and not necessary. I am just curious if the engine light will go off on its own, or if there is anything wrong, it all seems ok, I mean there WAS a hell of a lot of air in there, still is, so maybe by leaving it on so long with a lot of air trapped made it overheat, causing the engine light to come on, but hopefully after a few days and the air is all out all will be well..hopefully...
