Engine Oil

Postby Jitters » Fri Feb 23, 2007 11:42 am

Hey there!

Can anyone tell me what grade of engine oil I should use in my 88 Turbo. It has 64K miles and is a 3.3L H6. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Your best bet is going to be Mobil 1 5-50, this is what many of the Turbo guys are running and in some cases may actually cool down the engine temp by as much as 20-30F cooler.

Thanks again you guys are awesome...

No problem,

Are you running a Turbo Timer in there?

If not this would be a GREAT mod so you don't kill the Turbo early.....

A Turbo timer allows for your engine to stay idle after you pull your key out of the ingnition. The time is adjustable and is designed for those times when you drive hard and then park the car.

Don't worry, they are linked to the handbreak and so if someone ever tried running off with your car it wouldn't work. Alarm still activates etc.

In a nut-sheel
Just allows for the Turbos to cool down instead of baking oil in the lines etc.

Hey Eli,

Thanks for the info. I too, like Rich, have been accustomed to letting the car idle for a minute or two prior to shutting the car off. I carried this over to the Porsche as a result of my experience with Saab 900 Turbo's.

However, I like your idea. Can you tell me where I can find the unit?

Thanks,

Here is the unit I had installed on my last Turbo.

This unit was nice and small, the diameter of a tube of chap-stick and just a little longer. Great mounting was on the steering column.

I think the retail "back in the days" was around $250, I'm sure the retail these days should be under $150
