I did twice. Then I started again the third time, kept my right foot down on the gas for 5 min. Engine warm up and the problem gone.

Huh, throttle position sensor. Is there such a thing on 996?

Peter all modern cars have a TPS sensor. A P1518 is actaully a fault or loss of communication between electronic throttle module and PCM. So start looking for a new E-gas actuator/servo before you get stranded... BTW my paypal address is juniorcarlos57@hotmail.com

Do you have a part? Carlos, where is it located? And how to test the unit?

No i dont have a spare unit.
Its located on the Throttle body, Its the electric motor that opens and closed the throttle plate when you press and release the gas pedal. Dont know how to test it. Not listed in the fastforward parts website but im sure they can get it... think its listed as Throttle Actuator for manual Transmissions w/Egas

Yup, that black plastic thing attached to the throttle body is the Egas Throttle Actuator. I wonder if its sold separately or as a whole unit already attached to the throttle body.

if the throttle body is out
you can clean where the plate opens and closes
with toothbrush
( the gaps between the metal n the plate) ( the trim around the plate)

Computer spray wont work too tell cause its just an air sprayer and you need some liquid to brake down the silt thats cakes around the throttle plate... Also use a tooth brush like Steve said or a clean rag if you dont have a spare Tooth brush.

Use Throttle body cleaner from AutoZone... there many different brands, Use the Valvoline brand.

Just keep in mind that the Pcode you got is a result of Loss of communication, which is an electrical failure of the device and not mechanical failure. So cleaning the throttle body will be a nice maintaince job to smooth out your idle and run better but it improve the operation of the electrical component that is your Throttle Actuator.
