Turbo Quickener for my 930 Turbo

Postby Jitters » Fri Aug 17, 2007 8:36 am

Hey Guys,

Anyone agree with or disagree with the following statement. This was feedback that I recieved from another forum regarding the intallation of a Turbo Quickener on my PCAR.

There have been many discussion threads on the benefits (or pitfalls) of reducing the rotating mass of the clutch/flywheel assembly with regards to the 930. Yes, you get quicker response building rpm's. But, the heavy stock assemblies were put there for a reason. As best as I can explain it (and I'm just borrowing from other comments) is that the 930 engine needs time to build it's power band, thus the heavy rotating mass. I think that what it really means is that with a lighter mass, the turbo will not have built full boost in line with the rpm gains. Although you may gain rpm's quicker by lightening things up, the turbo is still lagging behind. By slowing things down a bit with rotational mass, it allows the turbo to better match the power band of the engine, producing peak boost at the peak power curve of the engine. Laymans terms...again, I'm no expert. I think the Steven at Imagine Auto can give you better input.

Thanks,

Jitters

Sounds about right....I usually sway with the "majority" on things like this.

Maybe you can ask BISI? I mean we have access to a dang ENGINEER on this board...and we know his background with turbos and such...I would think BISI would give his honest input. Have you tapped him?

It also depends on your driving, if you're going for that quick spool and go then the lightened flywheel is the way to go. Many of the FD3s owners which were all Turbo went with the lighter flywheel, even those who went with a Single-Turbo from the original twins....
